On The Porch

Well, it's finally summer in Georgia and I'm getting more and more comfortable with southern living. So, I figured it was time to get with the program and sit out on my front porch one beautiful evening with a tall glass of sweet tea and a good book.  Only one thing stopping me, a chair. Yea, sure, I have a couple of those fold up chairs that you slide into a bag when not in use, but I needed a front porch sitting chair. So off I went to my favorite Goodwill and , while I was looking at another chair, they brought the perfect one out and put it on the floor, right in front of me.  Now that's what I'm talking about!

 A steal for $7.49 !!


This chair is the perfect size for my pront porch, but I must admit she was just a little too plain. So I gave her a couple of coats of leftover exterior trim paint/ ( If you ignore the bags behind it you'll see the can peeking out on the left!).

Next, I came up with the idea to weave natural or burlap ribbon through the slats in the back. I used hot glue to secure the ribbon, starting at the bottom and just kept weaving a wonderful cotton ribbon the my wonderful friend Shelly over at ConfettiStyle  gave me. It's 100% cotton ribbon from May Arts (406-15-17 Natural Burlap/Striped Edge/Wired).   Rummaged around in my leftover fabric and found some burlap and old foam from an old cushion. I then made a small burlap cushion that I finished off with stripes of the same ribbon. Gave her  a couple of bows and off to the porch we went. 

Not like any other porch chair I've seen.  And my total  Thanks to Shelly was $7.49.

I'm Back !! Again

I  know it's been a long time since I posted anything on my blog. Life has taken a serious turn from so much free time ( is there really such a thing as free time or were you just being lazy?)  to what? "There isn't another 4 hours left in this day!" Just about every other day I beat myself up for about an hour (talk about wasted time) because I had let another day go by without sitting down and posting something on my blog. Well, tonight I just sat down without any clear direction and decided to write.

I craved out half a day today to visit what is quickly becoming a favorite spot.  Once a month the Scotts Antique Market opens and vendors from all over come to sell any and everything you can imagine.  Well, maybe I should retract that and say they hope to sell... My dear friend Shelly and I met there again this month, after finding a great little booth selling  old letters, postcards,etc. and buttons.  Yes, buttons. They were a steal if you've priced buttons for a future craft project.  Last month we stumbled upon this vendor but had no luck finding the colors we wanted, so, we showed up a day earlier in hopes of scoring big.  We found out that we were again, a day late. Oh well...  I did buy a bottle full of a variety of buttons. I have a project in mind so stay tuned.   While I'm not going to say what I plan to do with the buttons I thought I would show you some really cool items I've seen that used buttons:

Noboby Does Color Better Than,,,

Like many others I must admit to a  dangerous new addiction... Pinterest. Yes, I too find myself spending so much time looking at what others find interesting.  But I must admit it's pretty cool.  If I liked to cook, there are some recipes on there that I'd have to try.  I still might try a couple of deserts that I've repinned. Yes, but no, no I'm not, no point in even thinking it!!
But before I go on, for those of you who haven't checked out Pinterest, it's a virtual bulletin board that allows you to pin pictures that you find on the web onto your own "boards". You can create as many boards as you'd  like. Anyway, the latest pics to catch my interest all have to do with the amazing color combinations that we find in nature. God's paint palette is unbelieveable.  Just thought I'd post a few of my favorites. As Spring is upon us ( at least here in the South) these pics make me think about new combinations for a spring and summer wardobe.  What do you think....

I'm Just Sayin

Went to my sons'  school website and was impressed by this picture. Every time I went back and this picture popped up I would look at it  and think ( yep, everytime I saw it, the same thought) this is so cool.  First here's the original picture and a few others...

For the second year, RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, N.Y.) has been the sight of a great Make The Rink Pink event.  This is a combined effort on the part of the Women's , Men's Hockey teams and the schools chapter of the  Zeta Tau Alpha soroity. Pink jerseys were auctioned off and pink tiger t-shirts were sold to benefit Rochester General's Lipson Cancer Center and Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness.  This years' efforts raised $26,512, almost $5,000 more than last year.  The men's team beat Canisus 3-1 during this game. That makes it  a win-win situation. Earlier this year the Women's team held a similar event, with commemorative t-shirts and camouflage jerseys. 100% of the money raised was doated to The Wounded Warriors Project."The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) works to raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs." They raised over $8,000 for this project.






    During this same week on the local and national news I heard at least 3 negative stories about college athletes, and not 1 positive story.  Thought I'd  share this to show that many, many student athletes are making a positive impact on society. If you google the phrase Make The Rink Pink you will see that RIT isn't the only school doing this.   There are a lot of great young people who are thinking and doing for others. Just wanted to share this. 

Pinning It On the Wall

As I move into 2012 I am trying to change some basic things, one of them is my focus ( probably better known as my lack of focus) on organization.  How many times have you spent way too much time looking for something in your home office or craft area.  Me Too !! So this year is all about a new me, so I'm starting with my office/craft area.  I've shown you my new chair, so next is something that's really not a big item, but will save me tons of time. I'm looking at using my wall space to help me organize, so.. New Bulletin  Boards are next.   My cuurent bulletin boards are cute, but don't really allow me to organize and find those notes and ideas that I need most often.  Here they are:
